Tost is a quick, cheap snack on the go. The most popular is a mixed tost, “karışık tost”, two slices of bread are filled with kaşar cheese, sucuk (spicy turkish sausage) and tomatoes and then pressed together like a panini.
Found all over Istanbul in büfes (small stands or kiosks), on street corners or near busy public transportation hubs. Typically selling cigarettes, alcoholic drinks and a limited menu of tost, hot dogs, fresh fruit juices and tea.
We stopped at Akçapınar Tostcusu, a hidden gem on the back roads in Ula, famous for tost and ayran.
